Non-MIT Instructions on Registering for MUMMS

There are four items that need to be completed for initial assisted use of the MRL MRSEC SEF labs. Self-use of equipment will only occur after being qualified for instruments by MRL MRSEC lab managers.

  1. Complete the Non-MIT user application for either acadeimic use or non-academic use as applicable per the descriptions below.

  2. Send an electronic copy of your purchase order to sdalton@mit.edu.

  3. Register in the MUMMS portion of the MRL MRSEC Coral system at http://cmse-coral.mit.edu/mumms. Please do not register in MUMMS until after you have completed this step and have a Kerberos ID. Your Kerberos ID will be your campus username in MUMMS.

  4. Per MIT safety policies, complete the two required safety courses, Chemical Hygiene and Managing Hazardous Waste, on the MIT Environmental, Health and Safety web site. Also be sure to read and to check off that you have read the MRL Chemical Hygiene Plan in MUMMS.

TIPS TO COMPLETING REGISTRATION PROCESS

  1. Register in MUMMS.
For detailed instructions for registering in the MUMMS part of the MRL MRSEC Coral system, click here.

  2. To take the two MIT required safety courses, Chemical Hygiene and Managing Hazardous Waste, MRL MRSEC non-MIT users will need to request an MIT ID number and register for an MIT email account. This will enable users to access to the MIT EHS site where courses may be found.
  3. All external MRL MRSEC users should email sdalton@mit.edu with their name and date of birth so MRL MRSEC can request an ID number for the user.

Also, if you created a MUMMS account before you received your MIT Kerberos ID, please e-mail Susan Dalton at sdalton@mit.edu for your Kerberos ID so that your updated information in your account will appear in MUMMS.

  4. On the MIT Environmental Health and Safety web site, visit the EHS Training Needs Assessment to check off "Use of Potential Hazardous Chemicals". This will bring you to your two required courses. Completion of the courses will appear within 24 hours of course completion.

Also, please note: The needs assessment will ask you for a supervisor. Please select the name of the MRL MRSEC Shared Facilities lab manager from the lab you plan to use from the drop-down list. Please find a listing of each lof the Shared Facilities labs' staff by clicking on the appropriate lab on the Instruments & Labs page.

Users of the CMSE X-ray Shared Facilities will be required to take the EHS X-ray course if becoming a self user. Please see Dr. Charles Settens.

  5. MRL MRSEC lab managers will instruct users on all other proceeding steps, such as becoming a self user on instruments.
